Known in the industry as the Khallas girl, Isha Koppikar
shot to fame with her song number in Ram Gopal Verma's movie
Company. This 5'7" Mumbai beauty was born in 1976. Isha's
performance in Company mezmerised movie go-ers. This tall,
beautiful and talented girl turned her walk-on role to a
have-to-see-again experience. |
She had
actually started her glamour career with modelling.
Modelling assignments trickled in after she did a photo
shoot with Gautam Rajyadhyaksha when she was still in
junior college. But that was just the beginning. Some of
the bigger names that she had modeled for are Deepam
sarees,Ponds, Camay, Rexona, Synergy, Coke, L'Oreal and
Tips & Toes. She also did about five or six ramp shows.
But in 1995, at the Miss India 1995 contest, she won the
Miss Talent crown.

Coming from a family of academics, she felt compelled
to finish her degree in LIfe Sciences in Ruia College,
Mumbai. After completing her degree, her first film was in
Tamil, En Swasa Katre. She was cast opposite Arvind Swamy,
who was at the peak of his fame at that time. The film got
rave reviews and she was expected to be a big hit in the
south.
However, she softly entered Bollywood. Her first film, Ek
Tha Dil Ek Thi Dhadkan, directed by Shah Rukh Sultan in
1997, never saw the light of day. Then it was back to the
south to do her second film with Tamil superstar Prashant.
She managed to do about ten films in the south and worked
in all South Indian languages except Malayalam. Her
performance in Tamil film 'Kaathal Kavithai' fetched her
the Filmfare award for the best newcomer in the south in
2000-01.
Though her work was in the South, her heart was set on
making a name for herself in Mumbai. She did small roles
in Fiza and Pyar, Ishq aur Mohabbat. But she got the much
wanted and needed break from Ram Gopal Verma.
Isha loves to make friends and chat on the net. She loves
dancing but not at discos---she likes to start her day
early. Besides painting and making candles in her
free-time, she loves to gobble-up her mother's cooking.
She is a self-proclaimed food-freak in love with butter
chicken, biryani, seafood and chinese.
After Khallas, producers have been lining up with offers.
Some of the offers that she has in hand are Sanjay Gupta's
multistarrer Kaante, Plan with Dino Morea, a Harry Baweja
venture, and of course, more movies with Ram Gopal Verma.

Isha Koppikar Biography |
|
Isha
Koppikar
Date of Birth 1976, India
Height 5' 7" (1.70 m)
Isha comes from a family of learned academicians, as she
herself has completed her course in Life Sciences from
Ruia College in Bombay. After completing her college
course, she starred in a Tamil movie (En Swasa Katre)
opposite Arvind Swamy, which got her a lot of positive
reviews.
She shot to fame after a modeling shoot with Gautam
Rajyadhaksa when she was still in Junior College.
So far She has modeled for "Camay", "Rexona", "L'Oreal",
"Tips & Toes", "Coke" "Synergy", "Ponds", "Deepam Sarees",
and also took part in several ramp shows.
Talented, stunningly beautiful, and tall, a majestic five
feet seven inches in height, which is literally head and
shoulders above the average Indian woman (and a lot of
men, too!), she has better chances of becoming a leading
lady opposite the taller Bollywood heroes.
Isha got her fame in Bollywood when she did the Ram Gopal
Varma number (Khallas) in the movie named "Company", and
since then has been referred to as the "Khallas Girl" .
Today Isha towers over many Bollywood actresses, has come
beyond just a sizzling "item" girl, and has become a
household name. She fills the niche (and much more)
created by the exit of another attractive Bollywood
actress, Sonam.
Isha's name bounced back into lime-light when she starred
in a controversial film named "Girlfriend", which is the
story of two lesbian lovers - a subject that is still very
taboo in India and some other parts of the world.
Isha was nominated for her part in "Qayamat" in which she
plays a negative role. She also received accolades for her
role in "Pinjar".
She has one younger brother, and a pet dog named Mowgli.
Isha Koppikar standing 5'7" inches tall is one amongst the
beautiful and smart heroines of the Bollywood film
industry. She was born in the year 1976. She comes form a
family full of academics brilliance. She herself completed
her degree in Life Sciences in Ruia College, Mumbai.
Fate had fame in store for her. She did a photo shoot with
Gautam Rajyadhaksa when she was still in Junior College.
Modelling assignments soon shot in with this photo shoot.
She did modelling for top brands as 'Deepam sarees',
'Ponds', 'Camay', 'Rexona', 'Synergy', 'Coke', 'L'Oreal'
and 'Tips & Toes'. She also appeared for Miss India
contest. Though she could not win the crown she walked off
taking the "Miss Talent Contest".
She set foot in the world of cinema with a movie in Tamil
: En Swasa Katre. Though she was getting fame in South yet
her heart was all set in Mumbai. She did small roles in
Fiza and Pyar, Ishq aur Mohabbat, Kaante, Plan with Dino
Morea but her big break came when she did the item number
"Khallas" From here onwards she came to be known as the
khallas girl. Success followed one after the other. She
did a negative role in Qayamat. She got a nomination for
the same too.
Apart from these movies she is also to appear in the lead
roles in movies such as Inteqaam, Krishna Cottage,
Humraahi and Raakth.
She is in the news again for her role in the movie
"Girlfriend". The subject of the movie is homosexuality.
Though this is still a taboo in India yet her role has
been appreciated.
Days are not far when Isha will get the success which she
awaits.Aamir began his career as a child actor in the
films Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973) and Madhosh (1974). He made
his adult film debut in Ketan Mehta's Holi (1984).
In 1988 he got his first leading role in Qayamat Se
Qayamat Tak which was a huge success and launched his
career.[1]. He went onto appear in many other films in the
1990s, which had mixed success at the box office. However
he has had many box office hits to his credit. His most
successful films in 1990s included Dil (1990), Jo Jeeta
Wohi Sikander (1992), Rangeela (1995) and Raja Hindustani
(1996). [2]He also acted as well as wrote the screenplay
for the film Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993) and did
playback singing for himself in Ghulam (1998).
In 1998 he played a character with negative shades in
Deepa Mehta's offbeat film Earth (1998) which was however
a box office failure despite receiving acclaim from
critics. In 1999 he won acclaim for his role as a
dedicated cop fighting border terrorism in Sarfarosh
(1999). In 2000 he starred alongside his real-life brother
Faisal Khan in Mela which was a
box office and critical failure.[3]
In 2001 he produced and starred in the period epic film
Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India. This film was one of
the biggest hits of 2001[4] and was nominated for many
awards including the Academy Award for Best Foreign
Language Film. His second film released in 2001 was Dil
Chahta Hai which was also a success at the box office.
He had no film releases for three years since he put in a
lot of time preparing for the role of the real-life martyr
Mangal Pandey in The Rising (2005) Although not as
successful as Lagaan it managed to do moderately well at
the box office. His next release Rang De Basanti (2006),
in which he played a university drop-out who along with
his friends fights against corrupt politics was one of the
highest grossing films of 2006[6] and was selected as
India's official entry to the Oscars in the Best Foreign
Language Film category. The film was not shortlisted as a
nominee. It however won a nomination in Best Foreign
language film at BAFTA in England |
