"I'm sure that Dad will make a film with me"
Tusshar Kapoor's debut Muhje Kucch Kehna Hai will hit the theatres soon, and moviegoers will pass their judgment on Jeetendra's son. The question is: will Tusshar, a business administration grad from the US, make the grade? Presenting the newest star aspirant.

Tell us about your debut film Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai.
Muhje Kucch Kehna Hai is a film about a boy who is unable to express his love for this girl. He has a strong reason, I can't tell you that for obvious reasons but the film has shaped up really well. I am thrilled. It has all the ingredients required for a love story. We have even touched the boy's family and his relationship with every member of his family. Almost everyone will identify with the film. The music has turned out very well and people are already appreciating it. Basically it's a family film, which revolves around a love story. Satish Kaushik is a great director to work with. He was so helpful that I felt lucky to have him as my first director. His sense of humour is great and he's not demanding at all. He's a happy go lucky kind of a person. The film is a remake of a Telegu super - hit Tholi Prema.

Kareena Kapoor, your heroine in the film already had a release; don't you think you should have been launched with a newcomer?
We wanted a girl who would look beautiful and confident, one who knew what she wanted in life. That's exactly what Kareena is. Maybe a new girl would not have been able justify with the character. Vashuji the producer has been wonderful. Kareena has been a friend since childhood. She was fun to work with. I felt comfortable with the whole team.

So you always wanted to be an actor!
Actually, as a kid I didn't want to be an actor so I went abroad to study after school. I did Bachelor of Business Administration at Michigan University. Later I realised that all my life I had wanted to be an actor. So I returned to India and became David Dhawan's assistant to get a feel of this place. I enjoyed the stint and learnt a lot, which helped me in my acting. Then Vashuji saw Tholi Prema and thought it would be a good launch pad for me. So he met me and things were finalised. I took the usual training in dance, diction, and acting etc.

But people are wondering why your father didn't launch you, as is the done thing for star sons.
Well! Dad wanted me to know the way this industry functions which I did, by being an assistant for David Dhawna in Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge and Kunwaara. I started as the sixth assistant and later Davidji started his film with dad starring Govinda and Sushmita. Vashuji approached me simultaneously. So things fell in place. It was not planned that dad would not launch me but I guess whatever happens, happens for the best. But I'm sure that Dad will make a film with me but after a while.

But hasn't your sister Ekta launched a film for you?
Yes she has. And I am doing the film with David Dhawan. The heroine is yet to be finalised. I have another film - Padmalaya's Koi Dil Ne Kaha with Esha Deol and the shooting will start shooting soon.

Do you get nervous thinking about comparisons with other star-sons - Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan?
No. Why would I? See we all have our plus points and minuses. They are really good and I don't think people will compare me with them. I am sure I will make my own place. We have our own slots and there are films we can do and films we can't. So I am sure we will be just fine.

Aamir began his career as a child actor in the films Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973) and Madhosh (1974). He made his adult film debut in Ketan Mehta's Holi (1984).

In 1988 he got his first leading role in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak which was a huge success and launched his career.[1]. He went onto appear in many other films in the 1990s, which had mixed success at the box office. However he has had many box office hits to his credit. His most successful films in 1990s included Dil (1990), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992), Rangeela (1995) and Raja Hindustani (1996). [2]He also acted as well as wrote the screenplay for the film Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993) and did playback singing for himself in Ghulam (1998).

In 1998 he played a character with negative shades in Deepa Mehta's offbeat film Earth (1998) which was however a box office failure despite receiving acclaim from critics. In 1999 he won acclaim for his role as a dedicated cop fighting border terrorism in Sarfarosh (1999). In 2000 he starred alongside his real-life brother Faisal Khan in Mela which was a
box office and critical failure.[3]

In 2001 he produced and starred in the period epic film Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India. This film was one of the biggest hits of 2001[4] and was nominated for many awards including the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His second film released in 2001 was Dil Chahta Hai which was also a success at the box office.
He had no film releases for three years since he put in a lot of time preparing for the role of the real-life martyr Mangal Pandey in The Rising (2005) Although not as successful as Lagaan it managed to do moderately well at the box office. His next release Rang De Basanti (2006), in which he played a university drop-out who along with his friends fights against corrupt politics was one of the highest grossing films of 2006[6] and was selected as India's official entry to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The film was not shortlisted as a nominee. It however won a nomination in Best Foreign language film at BAFTA in England
