Asafoetida (Ferula foetida), also known as
Narthex or Hing. Recognized by its
overwhelming odor which has given rise to at
least one of its many popular names, "devil’s
dung". It is a member of the
umbelliferae plant family and originally was a
native of Persia, Afghanistan.
