Symptoms & Signs
Itching is a very common term that is used to describe a condition of uneasy irritation of the skin that makes one to scratch the affected area. Itching is not a chronic ailment, but a very common problem that can affect anyone at any point of time.

Itching can be diffuse or generalized spreaded all over the body or localized confined to a specific spot. The causes of generalized or localized itching can be many including sunburn, contact with chemicals, certain infectious diseases, insect bites, allergy, dryness of skin, an unfavorable medication, cold weather, exposure to certain unfavorable conditions, skin diseases, etc. Some specific causes for generalised itching include childhood infections such

as chicken pox or measles, allergic reactions, kidney disease, liver diseases, reactions to medications and substances such as antibiotics (penicillin, sulfonamides), gold or vitamin A, pregnancy, hepatitis and anemia. The visible symptoms of itching include scaly patches, blisters, scraped skin, reddishness of skin and prolonged scratching.
