Different people who snore may
have various reasons for the
narrowing of the air spaces
leading to snoring. About
thirty-five percent of normal
adults snore at least
occasionally, and 20 percent are
habitual snorers. Snoring is more
frequent in
males and overweight persons, and
it usually grows worse with age.
Snoring is often worse when a
person sleeps on his back. Alcohol
consumption specially before
retiring to bed can increase the
problem of snoring. Heavy snorers
are more likely to suffer from
hypertension and have risk of
strokes, chest pains and heart
attacks. If snoring is persistent
and is associated with snorting,
frequent stops in breathing at
night and excessive daytime
sleepiness, it is best to consult
a doctor. |
