Liver
cirrhosis
This
is a particular condition of liver in which uniform
fibrosis displaces normal liver cells. According to
Ayurveda this liver disorder occurs due to high
Vata. Most of the times it is the end result of
hepatitis and alcohol abuse. Symptoms of Liver
cirrhosis include dyspepsia, low-grade fever,
weight loss, jaundice, enlargement of the liver,
haemetemesis, anemia, and portal hypertension leading
to ascites.
Ayurvedic
Treatment
Many
Ayurvedic herbs like bhumyamalaki, Cassia
occidentailis, Caesaria esculata, Andrographis
paniculata, Capparis spinosa, Chicorium intibus and
sharapunkha have shown good results.
Tab.
Arogyavardhini 250 mg. 3 times a day with
Rohitakarishta
15 ml. 3 times a day for 1 month is beneficial. It is
always better to give some mild laxatives.
Avipattikara
powder 1 gm. at night every day with warm water.
Vardhamana – pippali rasayana should be given for 3
months.
Rohitaka
loha – Bark of rohita, triphala, trikatu, trimada,
and oxide of loha. Dose 250 mg. 3 times day.
Yakrit
– plihari loha – Dose 100 mg. 2 times day.
Hepatitis
According
to Ayurveda inflammation of Liver is called
Hepatitis.

Treatment with Causes and Symptoms
In acute stage complete bed rest is required. Diet
should be anti – Pitta means avoiding all oily,
hot, spicy, fried foods. Milk and ghee should also be
avoided. Green vegetables, sprouts, soup of green
gram are good. If there is vomiting sensation
oxide of conch and syrup of Garcinia indica with
crystalline sugar should be given to the patient.
Boiled vegetable soup should be given with rock salt.
Once the appetite returns to normal, then kicharee (a
mixture of mung and basmati rice cooked with a little
ghee and turmeric) should be given. If there is mild
fever, Tab. Sutashekhara 250 mg. 3 times a day or
Tab. Chandrakala 150 mg. twice day with kalameghasava
(Ay. S.S) 15 ml. 3 times a day is ideal. Herbs that
clean the blood having cholegauge action of bile
secretion as well as a mild laxative action and Pitta
palliative action are useful in curing disease.
In
viral hepatitis Phyllanthus neruri or amarus is very
useful. It can be given 1 to 3 gm. a day for 1 month.
The initial study has shown that it is very effective
in hepatitis B type of infection.
In
chronic stage treatment should be aimed at increasing
the digestive power and increasing the tissue fire or
dhatvagni that is situated in the liver. Adequate
rest and strict dietary restriction are essential for
quick recovery. Herbs that helps include Eclipta
alba, kutaki, daruharidra, guduchi, Aloe vera, and
sharapunkha. |
