The name of this stone derives from the Latin language “lapis”, which  means stone, and the Arabic word “Azul”, which means blue.Lapis lazuli remains one of the oldest of all gems dating back as long as  around 7,000 years. Beads, jewellery, and carvings of Lapis Lazuli have  been  found in numerous archaeological sites from that time onward, indicating that Lapis Lazuli was used in Afghanistan, throughout the  Middle  East, Asia, and also in the Roman World.The Constitution of Lapis considered more as a rock than as a mineral  because this stone consists of various minerals.Lapis lazuli is a considered as a semiprecious stone and is world famous  for  its deep blue colour. There are also white strips in most of the Lapis  Lazuli that are due to presence of the white calcite and of pyrite crystals.In today’s word Lapis Lazuli is most commonly used with the silver  jewellery. There are also some gold Jewellery with Lapis Lazuli in the market, Mostly this is made on order as imitation to the old ethnic   jewellery of past.
