Japa (Chanting Mantra for Spiritual attainments) hence, also

This mala is an excellent aid for meditation. Meditation is
practiced by
sitting in a comfortable position with your
eyes closed. The mind is focused on the mantra and other
thoughts are ward off with slow and deep breath. Japa mala
act as a regulator at time of meditation as it controls rhythm
of breath and prevents you from distraction.
The Japa
Mala usually consists of
a string of 108 beads, with one summit bead known as a sumeru.
Sumeru is not crossed while chanting and act as a boundary
for returning in reverse direction for further counting. Mala

How to use Japa Mala? |
|
| |
 |
Japa Mala can be used in a variety of ways. One of the most
common ways to use the mala is to hang the string between
the thumb and the ring finger. In this position, the middle
finger is used to rotate the beads. The beads are rotated by
one bead towards oneself, with each breath and repetition of
the mantra.
In another method, the mala beads are hang on the middle
finger and the thumb is used for rotating the beads.
The beads are rotated by one bead towards oneself, with each
breath and repetition of the mantra.
In all methods, the practice begins at the summit bead (sumeru)
and continues its way around the loop until the summit has
been reached again, but it must never be passed over. The
index and smallest fingers are not used and never touches
the mala beads in any method as they are considered
inauspicious.
The hand can be rest on the right knee or in
front of the heart at the center of the chest. You can also
use Yoga Danda for resting your hands.
If you use a mala of 27 or 54 beads for Japa, continue the
rotation until you have done 108 repetitions or multiples of
108.
To energize the mala and the mantra used, japa should be
practiced each day for 40 continuous days. When the mala
becomes empowered it can be worn or lightly placed on
oneself or others to transmit the energy of the mantra as
well as the energetic qualities of the |

mala. When you use a
new mantra with a mala, this energy becomes replaced, so it
is recommended to use a new mala with each mantra if
possible.
When not in use, store your mala in a special, clean and
preferably sacred space. The best place to store a mala is
on a personal alter or statue of a deity. |
