The mother tongue of the Punjabi people and the Punjab regions
of India and Pakistan, Punjabi is the tenth most widely spoken
language in the world. It has total 104 million people speakers
worldwide. It is the official language of the Indian state of
Punjab and Chandigarh and second official languages of Delhi and
Haryana. Not only in India and Pakistan, Punjabi is also a
popular in other countries such as United Kingdom, United
States, Australia, and most notably in Canada where, it has
ranked among the top five most commonly spoken languages,
according to the 2001 Canadian census. Punjabi is also spoken in
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius,
Singapore, and United Arab Emirates.
