Electroplate/Electroplating
This process is also known as Galvanotechnics
as it was Lulgi Galvani who invented it. In this process one
metal is coated with another metal using electricity. In jewelry,
inexpensive metals are frequently electroplated with more
expensive metals, like gold (gold plating), copper (electro
coppering), and rhodium (rhodanizing), chromium (chromium
plating), or silver (silver plating).
Emboss
A technique of surface decoration in
which a design is raised slightly above the surface.
Emerald cut
A style of stone cutting frequently used on
emeralds and diamonds. Emerald cut stones have a girdle that is
rectangular with truncated corners.
Enamel
A glassy substance fused onto metal using
heat.
Engrave
A surface decoration method in which a design is etched into the surface with a sharp tool.
Etched Finish
A kind of metal finish done on a metal’s surface
to reduce the metal’s reflectivity. Harsh
chemicals are used to eat into the surface or cutting into the surface
is done with a sharp tool.
Eternity ring
A narrow ring with a
circle of gemstones.
European cut
Known as the old
European cut also this is an old, round diamond cut that is similar to the newer brilliant cut
but slightly less bright.
Eyepin
A thin wire with a loop at one
end used for linking beads together.
