Karat
A measurement that is used to measure the
fineness of gold. 24 karat gold is considered the 100% pure gold, 18 karat gold is about 75%pure, 14
karat gold is about 58% gold, 12 karat gold is exactly half gold, 10 karat gold is
less than 50%
gold, it is only about 43.5% gold.
Karatclad
It is a trademark of a very thick
gold electroplating process, that is usually about 14
times thicker than standard electroplating.
Keeper ring
A keeper ring is a ring which is used
alongside another more valuable ring to keep it securely on the
finger.
Knot
A knot is a flaw, inclusion of a mineral in a
gemstone, usually in a diamond. It is visible at the surface of a gem
after polishing. Actually it is a small raised bump on the finished
gemstone.
Kunzite
Also known as “evening stone,” it is a transparent pink, light pink,
or light purple gemstone that looks like a rose quartz. It is a
variety of the mineral spodumene. Kunzite can fade after
prolonged exposure to light, but its
original color can be restored or even
intensified by irradiation. It is usually used as a large stone
and is easily chipped. Kunzite is often used in pendants.
